Move USDT to Arbitrum and Keep ETH for Gas
Send USDT to Arbitrum with enough ETH for the first transaction: check the source network, fund destination gas, and verify the token route before approving.

To move USDT to Arbitrum One and use it after arrival, send it over a route that leaves you with ETH on Arbitrum for transaction fees. The sending wallet also needs the source chain’s gas token to approve and submit a bridge transfer. USDT pays neither fee.
Arbitrum One uses ETH for gas, so USDT alone cannot cover a later swap or transfer. If the route supports both assets, bridge a small amount of ETH alongside USDT; otherwise, arrange to send ETH to the same wallet on Arbitrum One. For details on how native asset routes work, see Rhino Bridge native asset routes.
Which network should you select for USDT?
Select the exact source network where your USDT is held and Arbitrum One as the destination. The ticker “USDT” can refer to different token contracts on different networks, so check the asset and network shown in the sending service and confirm that the receiving wallet or service supports that version.
If withdrawing from an exchange, choose Arbitrum One as the withdrawal network only if the exchange lists it for USDT. If bridging from a self-custody wallet, check both the bridge’s route and the wallet’s connected network before approving. An address can look valid while the selected network or token is wrong.
How much ETH should you keep for gas?
There is no fixed amount that suits every transfer: fees vary with network conditions and the transactions you plan to make. Before sending, check the estimated fee in the wallet or bridge, then leave enough ETH on Arbitrum One for at least the first action you intend to take, such as moving the USDT or swapping it.
Plan for the source and destination separately. The source-chain wallet pays to approve or send the deposit; after arrival, ETH on Arbitrum pays for actions there. A bridge quote that accounts for the deposit does not necessarily leave destination gas in your wallet.
- Confirm the source network and USDT token shown in your wallet.
- Set Arbitrum One as the destination and check the receiving address.
- Keep ETH on the source chain for the deposit transaction.
- Ensure ETH will be available on Arbitrum One for the next transaction.
What should you check before approving?
Review the destination network, token, amount, address and fee estimate on the final confirmation screen. If the bridge shows separate approval and transfer steps, each may require a source-chain transaction and fee. Do not approve a route that names a different network or token than the one you intended.
After submission, use the bridge’s transaction status or the wallet’s activity view to confirm arrival, then switch the wallet to Arbitrum One and check its ETH balance before spending the USDT. Arbitrum’s documentation says deposits through its bridge commonly take about 15–30 minutes, depending on congestion. The next step is to make the intended transaction with ETH available for its fee.
