Polygon PoS withdrawals to Ethereum take about three hours

Polygon PoS withdrawals to Ethereum commonly wait for a checkpoint, then need a separate claim; the route determines whether settlement takes hours or days.

A Polygon PoS withdrawal to Ethereum usually takes around three hours in 2026, followed by a separate claim transaction on Ethereum. Polygon Support says checkpoints arrive about every three hours; delays to checkpoint submission or Ethereum confirmation can extend the wait.

Why does a Polygon withdrawal take hours?

The bridge burns the tokens on Polygon, waits for that transaction to be included in a checkpoint submitted to Ethereum, then lets the user claim the tokens there. Polygon Support describes the burn-and-unlock process; the checkpoint is the step that makes the withdrawal verifiable on Ethereum.

A pending status can mean the withdrawal is waiting for that checkpoint, rather than that the tokens have been lost. The Polygon Bridge pending and failed status guide explains those states and what to check when a transfer appears stuck.

Which Polygon bridge route takes longer?

The PoS route generally settles in hours, while Polygon’s Plasma withdrawal path has a seven-day delay. Polygon’s improvement proposal says the Plasma delay gives users time to challenge a withdrawal, so the route matters more than the label “Polygon Bridge.”

Before starting, check which network and withdrawal method the bridge interface shows. For a routine transfer back to Ethereum, the PoS route is usually the quicker choice when it supports the asset; Plasma’s longer wait is part of its withdrawal design.

What should you do while a withdrawal is pending?

Check the Polygon transaction first, then look for checkpoint completion and the Ethereum claim step in the bridge interface. A completed Polygon burn does not by itself mean the tokens have arrived in the Ethereum wallet.

  • Keep the Polygon transaction hash and confirm it succeeded on the Polygon network.
  • Check the bridge status for checkpoint completion and whether a claim is available.
  • Keep enough ETH in the destination wallet to pay for the Ethereum claim transaction.
  • If the claim is ready, submit it from the wallet that initiated the withdrawal.

Polygon Support says a withdrawal cannot be cancelled after it starts, but a pending withdrawal can be completed later with no time limit. The next step is to wait for the checkpoint, then submit the Ethereum claim when the bridge marks it available.
